Ringing true to its name, On the Rocks is just that…an exquisite two-bedroom clapboard beach cottage that exudes a Long Island-meets-Mystic style. Nestled right on the rugged rocks of Bakoven, one of Cape Town’s most exclusive suburbs with the sea just a stone’s throw away, this luxurious retreat is perfect for a secluded and tranquil seaside escape. 

A sunken lounge and open plan dining area with beautiful wooden floors and beach house chic décor set the tone on arrival at the cottage. Stunning sea views are immediately present through sliding doors that open on a shaded wooden deck that overlooks the rocks and sea. Leading off the living area is a spacious sun room with unique ‘boulder couches’, hewn from the surrounding rock, and stylish bistro tables, making for an ideal spot to relax in the sun. A neat guest toilet is situated below the staircase. 

A sunny, open plan kitchen is well equipped with modern amenities, including a built-in oven and stove, gas plate stove and dishwasher. A large walk-in fridge or chill room provides ample storage space and a tall breakfast table with seating for four is perfectly positioned next to sliding doors, which open up onto the sea-facing porch.

The lower level of the cottage flows out onto a deck with seating and barbeque area, small garden swimming pool set into the surrounding rocks. Wooden ladders lead to down to the rocks and beach below. 

A lovely wide staircase leads up to the second floor, which is home to two bedrooms and an informal TV lounge with a comfortable couch, television and telescope for star-gazing. The lounge opens onto a corner balcony with wire railings and stunning ocean views. 

The master bedroom enjoys a twin-to-king converted bed, and a beautiful en-suite bathroom with large soaking tub, walk-in shower and heated towel rails. 

The second bedroom also boasts a king bed, ample cupboard space and can be accessed via an inter-leading door from the master bedroom next door. This bedroom has a dedicated bathroom with a large walk-in shower and heated towel rails, and also acts as the laundry with a washing machine and tumble dryer neatly built into the bathroom cupboards. The upstairs rooms have overhead ceiling fans and large floor to ceiling windows with exterior sliding shutters.

Located in a quiet cul-de-sac in Bakoven, the cottage is secured with an alarm and is monitored by a security company. There is limited off-street parking. Private, secure, and wonderfully secluded – On the Rocks is an idyllic retreat for escaping from it all.
